Calling for Expressions of Interest; Coaches & Managers

We’re now at the time of year where we need to start organising our coaches and managers for our turf teams in 2020.  We're now calling for Expressions of Interest for our senior men and women turf teams, plus our junior turf teams. Expressions of Interest for our junior and senior grass coaches and managers, and masters coaches and managers, will be called for in the New Year.  The EOI's we’re calling for presently are;
Senior men; Divisions 3, 4, and 5
Senior women; Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
Junior girls; JT1, JT2, JT3, U13’sT1, and U13’sT2

Information about the roles can be obtained from Phil, our Head of Development via email to philjhockey@gmail.com.  Incentives will be offered for our coaches and managers in 2020.  For more information about these incentives, again, please email Phil at philjhockey@gmail.com.  When emailing your EOI please outline what your interest is, include a BIO on yourself including your coaching / managing experience, any current Coaching Accreditation Level, your Blue Card details, and any relevant playing history.  If you do not have a Blue Card, we can assist you with your application.

Expressions of Interest close January 10th 5pm.

Stick Drive 2020

We’ve created a new initiative for 2020 to assist with our recruitment drives, with particularly emphasis on our junior side of the club.  The aim of this initiative is to get as many hockey sticks into local homes and families across our communities as possible, increasing the awareness of our great club and our great sport.

What we’re asking for is that all your old junior sticks that you no longer want, which are in fair condition, be donated to the club.  These sticks will be reconditioned (if required), and then given away to those new to hockey via the school programs we run, plus at our Come and Try and Sign On events.

If you can help with getting sticks to the club, great!  If you have any hockey friends that won’t receive this message but might have sticks, please share.

For more information about this initiative including where to drop the sticks off, please email Phil, our Head of Development, at philjhockey@gmail.com.

Head of Development

2019 has been a positive year for South West United Hockey Club.  We have certainly taken some nice sized steps forward in some key areas.  We as a club want to keep our rate of improvement at a high level.  Reflecting our progressive approach to club hockey, and with 2020 front of mind, the club has decided to formally title Phil Jackwitz's role as SWUHC’s Head of Development.

The Head of Development is a dual-purpose role; “recruitment” and “development”.  The Head of Development will work across a number of areas including working with schools, creating recruitment events, creating development opportunities for members across the whole year, plus providing ongoing support for all our coaches.

This role will very hands-on so if you have any ideas on how to further advance our great club, please get in touch with Phil.  You can reach Phil at philjhockey@gmail.com.

2019 Coaching Announcement

SWU are very excited to announce the appointment of Phil Jackwitz as not only our 2019 Division 1 Women’s coach but also as SWU Coach/Player Development Specialist. This is a very hands on role, where Phil will be running coaching clinics and junior player clinics (both grass and turf), exclusively for SWU members throughout the year with a major focus on junior athlete and coach development. He will also be rotating amongst our junior and senior turf and grass trainings to help our coaches so please make Phil feel welcome when you see him.

Like so many others in our hockey community, Phil Jackwitz is a hockey tragic having played, umpired, and coached our great game.  It was in 2012 though that Phil decided to shift his Hockey passion from being a hobby to being a profession, and he hasn’t looked back.  Phil has since enjoyed stints at both the BHA; 2012 – 2015 and at Hockey NSW; 2015 - 2017.  Phil boasts an Advanced Level Coaching Accreditation and a modest list of coaching successes at both the local and state level.  In 2018, Phil joined the coaching ranks of South West United Hockey Club; dedicated to helping the club reach its goals.

Division 2 will be coached by Tim O'Sullivan.

Division 3 will be coached by Amy Gilmore.

Division 4 will be coached by Brad Rogers.

Division 5 will be coached by Sandy Bush

We will also be fielding as many Junior Turf and Grass teams as possible, again, depending on numbers.

From the hardworking committee at South West United Hockey Club.
